Borough President Brewer, Senator Hoylman and Assemblymember Glick Endorse Assemblymember Kavanagh for State Senate

New York, NY – Today, a trio of prominent Manhattan elected officials, Borough President Gale Brewer, State Senator Brad Hoylman, and Assemblymember Deborah Glick endorsed Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh for State Senate in the 26th district, recently vacated by Daniel Squadron.

Borough President Brewer said: “For the last 15 years, I’ve been privileged to work hand-in-hand with Brian Kavanagh, advocating to create the equitable and responsive government that New Yorkers deserve. Brian shares my values, including a deep belief in the power of government and a commitment to fight for our communities. I hope you’ll join me in supporting him for State Senate. I can say this confidently: Brian is a dedicated public servant and we need his strong, progressive voice in the State Senate.”

Senator Hoylman said: “I've shared part of my district with Brian Kavanagh for the last five years. During this time, I've personally witnessed Brian's leadership on fighting for stronger rent laws and tenant protections, including his important legislation to increase the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption. As we continue to face an affordable housing crisis in our city, it's essential that New Yorkers elect legislators like Brian who understand the issue and know how to get things done in Albany. He'll be a great addition to the State Senate.”

Assemblymember Glick said: “I am proud to endorse Brian Kavanagh for Senate. He has been a strong and consistent ally as we have fought together in the Assembly for affordable housing, environmental protection, reproductive freedom, and equality and justice. It has been a pleasure to serve with him for eleven years now, and while I will miss him in the Assembly, I look forward to continuing to work with him as our State Senator.”

Brian Kavanagh said: “I am proud to receive the support and endorsement of three colleagues and fantastic public servants today! I look forward to many more years of learning from and collaborating with each of them.”

Brian Kavanagh currently represents the 74th Assembly District and is running for State Senate to represent the 26th Senate District, which includes lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn. Kavanagh is one of New York’s leading champions of reform and is an outspoken advocate for changing the culture in Albany. As an Assemblymember, Kavanagh authored some of the most important bills to strengthen rent laws and expand tax breaks to freeze rents and keep housing affordable for seniors and people with disabilities. He helped lead the successful effort to ban the environmentally destructive practice of drilling for gas known as “fracking,” and is a leader in the fight against gun violence. Kavanagh is currently the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Consumer Affairs and Protection. His complete biography can be found here or at
