The New York League of Conservation Voters, which works to make environmental sustainability a top political and policy priority in New York State, has announced its endorsement of Brian Kavanagh, who is running for New York State Senate in District 26.

“The future of the New York City and our great state falls into the hands of our positive, proven leaders that are geared towards building a more environmentally-sound and just future. Brian Kavanagh has been a consistent ally of our environmental efforts for over a decade and we are proud to endorse him in his campaign for State State. We strongly encourage anyone who wants to see continued growth towards a healthier and more resilient New York to vote for Brian on November 7th,” said Marcia Bystryn, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters.

In response, Brian Kavanagh said: “I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the New York League of Conservation Voters. Together, we have worked to protect public health, address the urgent threat of climate change and fight for environmental justice.”

Brian Kavanagh has been a leading environmentalist throughout his tenure as a member of the New York State Assembly. Last year, he earned a 94 on NYLCV's State Environmental Scorecard. He has also authored a substantial number of environmentally-focused bills. This past legislative session alone, he sponsored legislation to require the Department of Education to establish an education for environmental sustainability program to teach children the importance of conserving and protecting our environment; ban formaldehyde in certain children’s products; and to require facilities generating excess food waste to take measures to minimize food waste, among many others. He is also the founder of the New York State Chapter of the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators.
